The Devon Coast to Coast

My Story

The Big Give Women and Girls appeal for 2024 has now ended for Pipal Tree as we successfully hit our campaign target of £32,000. However, you can still support this worthy cause by sponsoring me in my epic October challenge in a bid to raise a further £10,000.

As background, each year I take on a sponsored trekking challenge as a self-funded 'holiday' while raising funds for the charity I founded, Pipal Tree. In 2021 I trekked along Offa's Dyke, in 2022 it was The Pennine Way and in 2023 the turn of The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. This year, I will tbe striding along the 119-mile Devon Coast-to-Coast route that starts at Wembury on the south coast and ends at Lynmouth on the north coast. En route, I will be completing the Two Moors Way that begins at Ivybridge and crosses both Dartmoor and Exmoor.

I started out on on Sunday 13th October and got the first 16 miles from Wembury to Ivybridge out of the way. I will resume the trek on Monday 28th October and walk on consecutive days thereafter, assuming that the weather isn't atrocious (Dartmoor is not a place to be in poor conditions). But, I will get to Lynmouth at some point in November, hopefully buoyed along by your kind sponsorship!

All the funds that I raise will go to the Lily's Leaves social enterprise for women in Kathmandu that Pipal Tree helped establish in October 2020 and has funded ever since. The funds will support the training and employment of vulnerable and disabled (deaf) young women who will be making school rucksacks and reusable sanitary pads for free distribution to schoolchildren in the poorest parts of south Nepal to encourage their continued attendance.

I will keep you updated on progress through this site. Please spare as much as you can - even a few pounds can be made to go a very long way in Nepal.

Thank you so much!

Philip

Pipal Tree receives no government funding in either the UK or in Nepal. We are entirely reliant upon grants from corporates and Foundations alongside gifts that arise from challenges, community fundraising and individual supporters. Please do remember our needs if you are writing or updating your Will (see this link for basic guidance). For further information you can follow this link. If you would like to discuss specific interests, feel free to drop me a line.
