In March 2020, working in partnership with our sister charity Our Sansar, we set up a girls' refuge in Madhesh Province's principal town, Janakpur. This 30-bed facility provides a safe house and, where necessary, rehabilitation for the victims of trauma. Gender-based Violence (GBV) is endemic within the area and, tragically, rape is commonplace. Most of the girls who are currently staying at the refuge are rape survivors. We work towards moving the girls forward in life, preparing them for reintegration with their communities and families if and when it is safe to do so. Our support services extend into the community where we help girls who have been reunited with their families or stayed with them. Most importantly, we take legal action against their assailants so that the girls can find the justice that is such an important part of the recovery process.

We fund the refuge on a 50:50 basis with Our Sansar, with a bed space costing £100 per month. Please help us with a donation towards providing this vital safety net.
